If you would have told me in 2020 knee deep in COVID while I was pregnant with my fifth child, that I just needed to quit being a chicken shit and put myself out there... I'd have said, "No."
Let's take it a step further, if you would have told me that in 2023 I would be leaving the classroom, generated over $200,000 in income online, and have 100K followers on TikTok... I'd have told you to shut the fuck up.
I'd have never believed you. I'd have said it were literally impossible. Yet, here we are.
If I can tell you anything-- it is this. Before you start throwing content online in all direction, niche down. I know, it seems not too important at this moment, but if you are making content that does not train the algorithm to know who you are, what you're about, and who needs to see your content it will be so hard to start making money online.
Also, before I forget because that is what my ADHD brain does... here is a free teacherpreneur income guide that will help you get those ideas flowing.
There's this cheezy phrase "the riches are in the niches"? It's literally so true! Finding your niche is essential for building a successful business in education. But what exactly is a niche, and why is it so important?
Simply put, a niche is a specific area of expertise or interest within a industry. So for us, teaching or education industry-- but that's a huge umbrella. We need to find your little piece of heaven under that umbrella. It's the thing that sets you apart from the competition and makes your business unique. It could be a particular subject, grade level, teaching style, or a specific problem you want to solve.
Why is finding a niche so important?
Well, it helps you stand out in a crowded market. I know you see how many teacher account fill our feed on TikTok and Insta. By focusing on a specific area, you can become an expert in that field and build a loyal following of customers who are looking for exactly what you offer. Plus, having a niche makes it easier to create targeted content that resonates with your audience.
But how do you discover your niche?
Start by reflecting on your own strengths, interests, and experience. What are you passionate about? What do you excel at? What can you talk about for hours for free and never get tired of? What problem in education do you want to solve? What do other teachers come to you to get help with?
You can even conduct market research and see what's missing in the industry. Talk to other educators and see what they struggle with or need help with. Finding a gap in the market can be a great way to identify a niche.
Once you've discovered your niche, it's time to create content that encompasses it. This could be blog posts, social media content, podcast webinars, or products and services that directly address the needs of your audience. Make sure your content speaks directly to your ideal customer and addresses their pain points. You want to provide value and build trust with your audience.
And I know, I know. It is scary as hell to get on social media with a big 'ol smile and share those private thoughts that are in your brain. But listen to me when I say this:
So my teacher bestie, don't be afraid to get specific and find your niche. It's the key to building a successful and sustainable business in education. Go out there and make a difference in the world of education because lord knows the powers at be ain't gonna do it!
